Skilled nursing construction and licensing is prohibitively expensive. The trend is for life plan communities to offer rehabilitation and home nursing services on campus in the resident’s living unit in order to avoid the need for skilled nursing placement at all. We are monitoring industry trends and will design alternatives to skilled nursing that are safe and comfortable for residents. Examples of services that could be provided in the resident’s home are: physical therapy, wound care, monitoring of chronic health conditions, obtaining samples for laboratory analysis, incontinence management, assessment for and acquisition of equipment such as wheel chairs, commodes (durable medical equipment).
