On Tuesday, April 4, Congressman Jared Huffman joined leaders and supporters of Life Plan Humboldt (LPH) at the future site of the life plan community south of Hiller Rd in McKinleyville. Dr. Ann Lindsey, the president of Life Plan Humboldt, welcomed the Congressman and his Humboldt staffer, John Driscoll, along with several LPH board members, ambassadors, and volunteers. Greg Pierson, the property manager, participated in the gathering.
Walking the site, Congressman Huffman noted the value of a location walkable to so many amenities, including food stores, a library and park, and many businesses. He also commented on the enhanced economic and civic activity that 144 units at Life Plan Humboldt would bring to McKinleyville. Huffman commented, ““This is a great project – it makes me feel better about getting older.”
Life Plan Humboldt board members shared initial plans with Mr. Huffman to build a renewable energy microgrid as part of the development. The Congressman, known for his efforts to protect the environment and address climate change, offered to assist LPH in accessing Inflation Reduction Act federal funds to support this element of the construction, including solar panels and batteries.
