We left New Orleans in 1981 and have been living here in Arcata ever since. We both worked for Humboldt State University: John taught in the English department and I was a reference librarian in the library. We both love Humboldt County. We appreciate the small-town atmosphere and the intellectual and cultural stimulation provided by Humboldt State University. We retired long ago and both our grownup children have their own families and live in the Bay Area. Our sons have encouraged us to think about moving nearer to be closer to them and our five grandchildren. We ourselves have felt the pull of family and have checked out some retirement homes in Marin and Santa Rosa but the thought of leaving our community of friends and the natural beauty of the Northcoast and worries about the extremely high cost of retirement homes in the Bay have led us to put that plan aside. We are intrigued and excited about the plan for Life Plan Humboldt. It seems that it will provide the kind of retirement living we hope to enjoy.
