Hopes, dreams and the best planning cannot always prepare us for unexpected health events that suddenly alter the ability to live independently. I learned this first hand when my late husband developed Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. His rapid health decline rendered him unable to live independently or work outside the home. I transitioned from wife to wife/caregiver. When I could no longer care for him at home, it was necessary for him to reside in a care home where I became a visitor and managed his medical care. Throughout the 2-1/2 years my husband lived in care homes, I had the opportunity to bear witness to elderly folks and their families who also found themselves in these unplanned situations. As a recent retiree, I am thinking about my own future and considering residential options.
I was very excited to learn about Life Plan Humboldt. It is a place where I could live in community with others; yet reside in a private residence. I would be free from the responsibility of home maintenance. I would have access to medical services and be prepared to transition to assisted living or memory care with minimal disruption. Most importantly, the Life Plan Humboldt model would provide peace of mind for me and also for my adult children.
Life Plan Humboldt is a place that would support my physical needs, foster my intellectual interests and provide opportunities for new friendships. Connected, Active and Engaged Living says it all!
