For the last 52 years I have lived off grid, with no public services. With my children and grandchildren all living in other areas, I know that someday I will no longer be able maintain my home and my “back to the land” lifestyle. The possibility of staying in the area, near my friends, and being able to live both independently and in community is a dream come true for me. The proposed support managing the maze of health care is an added bonus.
My mother had the good fortune to be able to reside at Laurelmead, a cooperative for independent senior living in R.I. She spent 12 wonderful years there, had her autonomy and a close-knit community. All her needs were met. She found ways to contribute and to be an active member of the community. I was inspired and hopeful that someday I would be able to find that kind of home for myself. Now I see it may be a possibility for me here at Life Plan Humboldt. I only hope I can afford it, my friends with join me, and it will be open when I need it.
